Expand external source and your audience!
The reason for this challenge is to get my followers counter up! After some research, asking around, watching YouTube videos on how to increase your audience — I gave it a try.
The reason that I was nervous is that I'm not that type of person who pushes my content in other people's throat. It's a step that I need to conquer for myself. Otherwise, I wouldn't have content to show on my project.
So what comes to my mind to get a bigger audience is to be active on other platforms as well.
I started with the platform '9gag' which I knew about. I have been an active user there and felt more comfortable to post my first images there.
I was in luck because they have this subcategory 'Rate my outfit' and I posted shamelessly on that platform. I don't know if it got me more traffic but my page visitation went 1k higher than normal. So I can admit that this helped me a little. That aside, I also got negative feedback on that. This platform doesn't like these 'Instagram models' and sees it as trash. And they treat your photo like that. You can see that there are more down votes than up votes and that stung a little.
I don't understand why some people do this, but I can imagine they have some strong, close-minded opinions what other people can and cannot post. If they don't like it, they will waste your time by saying it.
Reddit!
This platform was unknown for me. I was nervous and in stress to post here. But in the end, they had the same subcategories where I could post my images. Other fashion pages weren't successful but then other pages were. From time to time I tried to keep my external audience floating by uploading photo's on different sub-platforms. But it's not very effective in my opinion.
Model Magazine!
It took me a while to get me over this step. After some nervous thinking I just went on with it and I contacted this magazine. I constructed my email as good as I possibly could! I asked if it would be possible to get a publication, maybe with an interview or some of my photo's. In the end, I was very excited because they allowed me to write a small text that I could send over together with some of my material.
Even though I can't see if it had success or not, I'm happy that I can tell my grandkids that I have been featured in a model magazine! Either way, this was a big success for me.
Research research research!
I still have many options to investigate, but for now, I'm keeping a low profile. I was thinking to ask other more 'feminine' magazines like 'Flair', teenage magazines like 'Joppie', 'Girls Only', 'Fashionista', etc, etc...
Still, I have this dream to be in a big magazine, it's where it all started and where my journey began. But even I know it might be a dream that will be lingering in the back of my mind.
This challenge was more of a wide angle of inspiration and investigation. Other platforms can help but I'm not too excited to keep posting there.
Instagram is still the mean focus.
